Gloucester

The background: Gloucester is a City of significance with a Royal history, founded by the Romans, and an important trading port that shaped the entire country over the years.

A cathedral city and the county town of Gloucestershire, Gloucester is situated between the the beauty of the Cotswolds and the Royal Forest of Dean. Including suburban areas, Gloucester has a population of around 150,000. It is a port, linked via the Gloucester and Sharpness canal to the Severn estuary.

A major attraction of the city is Gloucester Cathedral, which is the burial place of Kind Edward II and features in scenes from the Harry Potter films. The Gloucester Docks have undergone a major development programme and now provides a social, shopping and entertainment hub set against the backdrop of the famous warehouse buildings.

Economically, the city is dominated by the service industries, and has strong financial, research, distribution and light industrial sectors. Historically it was prominent in the aerospace industry.

Modern Gloucester

Gloucester is a City of growth with a mixed demographic spread throughout the city. Homes can date from the 1600’s all the way through to brand new suburban housing developments. With large business situated throughout the City, employment opportunities exist a plenty and is well served for education with the University campus, complemented by famous Grammar schools whose appeal stretches far beyond the County borders.

Travelling

A major appeal of living in and around the City is the fabulous network of travel facilities. Gloucester trains station offers direct access to London and the city is connected at two points to the M5 allowing access north and south very easily.
